From a Childhood Fascination with Gears to Integrated Transmission Solutions

    2026-07-24

How CHIFLY Helps OEMs Build Better Machines

Long before CHIFLY began developing precision transmission solutions for customers around the world, its founder, Jason, was already curious about how motion worked.

As a child, he sometimes joined his father while he operated traditional film projectors. Most people watched the screen. Jason watched the mechanism: gears turning, shafts moving, and many small parts staying in step so the film could run smoothly.

    That curiosity never left.

Today, it guides a technical team working with OEMs around the world. The machines have changed, and the applications have become far more complex, but the question behind the work is still simple: how do we make motion more accurate, reliable, and easier to integrate?

    Learning from industry

The experience behind CHIFLY began in 2004.

Jason entered the industrial automation industry in 2004, joining a Fortune Global 500 drive technology company. The role brought him close to equipment manufacturers, distributors, and industrial customers.

This was where the real education happened. A gearbox might meet the required ratio and torque on paper, yet still be wrong for the axis. Mounting errors could undermine accuracy. A poorly matched inertia ratio could make tuning difficult. Components that looked fine individually did not always work well as a system.

Over the next decade, Jason learned to look beyond the product specification. He learned to ask about the machine, the load, the duty cycle, the available space, the expected service life, and the people who would assemble and maintain it.

    The idea that shaped CHIFLY

Customers rarely struggle because they cannot find a gearbox. They struggle because reliable motion is a system problem.

Built in China, shaped for global OEMs

A different question changed the direction.

Around 2014, Chinese OEMs were building faster equipment and more automated production lines. They needed higher precision and shorter development cycles, but they also needed machines that could keep working in demanding factory conditions.

There were plenty of components available. What many engineering teams lacked was a supplier willing to understand the application before recommending the hardware.

    The question

How can we help OEMs build better machines?

CHIFLY grew around that application-first approach. It was not assembled as a trading operation with a collection of unrelated products. The foundation was transmission engineering, manufacturing, and direct experience with machine builders.

    Integrated motion for global OEMs

    From components to systems

The products are only the starting point.

CHIFLY first built deep experience in planetary transmission. As customer applications became more complex, the technical range expanded.

Today, customers may find us while searching for a planetary gearbox and harmonic drive manufacturer, a high-precision gear reducer supplier, or OEM drive technology for industrial automation. Those descriptions cover what we make, but they do not fully explain how we work.

    One motion ecosystem

    • Precision planetary gearboxes and servo planetary reducers
    • Harmonic drives and high-accuracy harmonic reducers
    • Precision gear racks and helical rack and pinion systems
    • Servo electric cylinders and linear modules
    • Linear guides, ball screws, and linear motion components
    • Precision couplings and custom transmission parts

Our engineers help customers select, match, and combine these technologies into precision transmission solutions and integrated motion control systems built around the machine.

A low-backlash planetary gearbox may be the right choice for a CNC positioning axis. A compact harmonic reducer may suit a robotic joint where space and repeatability matter. A long-travel automation line may call for a helical rack and pinion system supported by linear guides.

Different machines need different answers. We start there.

    Global OEM cooperation

Taking a brand overseas changes more than the shipping distance.

Motor interfaces, installation habits, documentation requirements, lead-time expectations, and service needs can be very different across markets.

International cooperation works best when the technical conversation starts early. Before recommending a planetary gearbox, harmonic drive, electric cylinder, or rack and pinion system, we need to understand how the axis will be built and what the customer expects from it.

Backlash, repeatability, rated and peak torque, duty cycle, lifecycle, noise, efficiency, temperature, mounting accuracy, lubrication, drawings, and interface confirmation can all affect the result.

    Building motion. Earning trust.

The story began with a child watching gears inside a film projector.

Today, that same curiosity lives in a team helping OEMs around the world build machines that move with greater precision, reliability, and efficiency.

    Some things have not changed.
